Never known to shy away from putting a twist on tradition, the folks at New Belgium Brewery have come up with these new beers to delight and sophisticate your taste buds. Here’s what our beer guy had to say about them:

Ben & Jerry’s Salted Carmel Brownie Brown Ale

Nose:

Has pretty typical aromas for a Brown Ale – sweet caramel malts with hints of chocolate and vanilla.

Taste:

Based on the style, there isn’t really any bitter components. Upfront caramel roasted malts which give way to chocolate nuttiness. None of the flavors are overstated.

Finish:

Dryer finish with chocolate notes lingering.

Recommendation:

Grab a pint/bottle where you can. While this beer does have some of the advertised flavors, it doesn’t break out much past your typical Brown Ale.

Lips Of Faith: Blackberry Barley Wine Ale

Nose:

A very fruity, bready with a scent of blackberries, caramel malt, and other fruit. Upfront scent of blackberries along with some hints of raisin and dates

Taste:

Big upfront jammy taste of blackberries, along with other sweet and tart notes of tart cherry and dark grapes. Some notes of oak and sweet caramel.

Finish:

Very syrupy sweet finish that lingers.

Recommendation:

Try a Taster at first. A good smooth introduction to Barley Wines in general but be careful they pack a punch at 10% ABV.
