Like many others, we are firm believers that the best way to end a lovely meal is with a lovely glass of port, and Paso Robles is one of our favorite areas for them. Whether you like a little zip, love rich and sweet, or elegant and superbly layered, we have found a port for you.  Here are three we’d recomend depending on your tastes.  Cheers!

Review:

Aromas of blackberries, blueberries, and cherries are accented by notes of dark chocolate, spice, and fennel seed on the nose. Blueberry, blackberry, and currants come together with suggestions of  pepper, tobacco, and anise on the palate. A lively port, with ample fruit and some spicy highlights, try a bottle if you like your after dinner wines with a little pizazz.

Graveyard Vineyards Deliverance Port

Grape(s):   Touriga & Souzao varieties

Region: Paso Robles

Price: 25-30

Review:

Layers of chocolate rise up from a glass. The palate delivers rich dark chocolate flavors with accents of cherries and dates.  This is a lively, richly sweet port. Think of it as a Mozzrat candy in a glass.  If you’re a fan of extra sweet, then you’ll enjoy this. If you prefer traditional port, then it’s probably not for you.

Rating: 87, if you lean towards traditional ports – 90, if  you’re a fan of extra sweet
