True to Oskar Blues Brewery’s roots they have once again altered the amplitude of canned beer by announcing its newest seasonal creation, GUBNA Imperial IPA. The beer will begin shipping March 1, 2010.
Emphasizing that complexity of character can arise from simple elements, this ale is made with 3 malts and 1 hop. Its light amber color and spicy malt character are derived from the use of German Dark Munich Malt and Rye Malt respectively. The GUBNA Imperial IPA will greet beer drinkers with a pungent citrus blast, provide a spicy yet round middle and finish with a brisk, clean bitterness.
North American 2-row barley combines with the other grains to lay the foundation for the hop onslaught to come. Summit hops are used exclusively in the boil for bitterness, flavor and aroma but it doesn’t end there. Post-fermentation dry hopping allows the 10% ABV monstrosity to gently coax the citrus rind and grapefruit aroma to join the 100 IBUs already present.
GUBNA will be coinciding as a rotating seasonal with their iconic winter offering Ten FIDY Imperial Stout. “We’re driven to continue to destroy the barriers of what folks expect from a canned beer,” says Oskar Blues head brewer Dave Chichura. “GUBNA is a unique take on the style and will no doubt be the hoppiest beer in a can. ‘GUBNA’ celebrates the simple complexity of each ingredient with a distinctly smooth mouth feel & crisp hop aroma.
GUBNA Imperial IPA will be conveniently packaged in 12-ounce cans and sold in 4-pack carriers. The suggested retail price of this seasonal brew will be $14.49 per 4-pack. Oskar Blues Brewery’s GUBNA Imperial IPA joins an impressive line-up of boundary-busting canned beer getable in 26 states. For more information about where to purchase Oskar Blues beer visit
