After a very wet winter, the 2005 season was very mild and dry. Typical “June Gloom” persisted into July, but it finally succumbed to the steady warmth of August and September. This gradual ripening allowed for greater flavor development at lower sugar levels than usual for a beautifully balanced wine.

Fans of focused, meaty Syrah will really enjoy this one. The nose is packed with notes of smoked ham, bacon, and leather, alongside nuances of dark berries. On the palate, the bold smoked meat returns, moving into layers of blackberry, blueberry, and cedar. Have a culinary adventure and pair a bottle with an unusual gamy dish like rabbit or quail.
