Tom and Carol Russell wanted to build a nice house, a small winery and grow some grapes. They found just the spot in Corral De Tierra, a slip of space tucked between the Santa Lucia Range and Carmel Valley. Seemingly overlooked by other grape-growing pioneers, this unique region had its own micro-climate and proved to be just what the Russells had in mind.

Grown near the town of Greenfield, in a warmer section of Monterey County, this Syrah is very smooth yet quite layered in its flavors. The nose offers ripe raspberry, burnt currants, banana, and earthy notes. Creamy berry flavors, currants, and vanilla blend together on the palate. At only $20 a bottle, it is a very good value. Pair a bottle with a lamb stew or roast chicken.
