Background

Hunt Cellars is an extraordinary place. Hunt Cellars produces boutique quantities of almost all red wines that win a disproportionate number of awards. David Hunt, the owner and winemaker is blind, but he plays the piano and names most of his wines after musical terms. David says that blindness makes his palate and nose extra-sensitive.

David spent years looking for the perfect venue for his wines and eventually settled on a uniquely beautiful property of over 550 acres in the foothills and mountains of Creston. This area met Davids criteria for topography, soil composition, unparalleled beauty, and ideal terroirs – its varied elevations and mineral soil composites mirror some of the world’s great wine regions.

The Hunt Family decided to name their vineyard, “Destiny Vineyards, in honor of their new baby girl they named Destiny who was born in 1996.  Destiny Vineyards first planting consists of: Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Syrah, Petite Syrah, Cab Franc, Viognier and Zinfandel, and In 1997 they began producing their first releases of memorable wines.

Hunt Cellars 2006 Syrah Rosé “Afternoon Delight” / Paso Robles

The bold ruby hue of this wine is quite striking in a glass.  Swirl and take in the dazzling, springtime nose of cherry, cranberry, strawberry, and a lovely touch of rose petal.  A bright, crisp wine, with a refreshing acidity on the palate, the red berry notes return alongside sweet hints of toffee and apple.  Grab a bottle and enjoy it on a lazy Sunday with a late lunch.  Have it with virtually any fresh salad or pair it with an indulgent Naga truffle from Vosges chocolate.
