Heritage Zinfandel affirms Dry Creek’s dedication to Zinfandel. Their Heritage Zinfandel comes from an experimental project initiated in 1982 by Vineyard Manager, Duff Bevill, to preserve the tradition and “heritage” of very old Zinfandel vineyards. Cuttings from Mazzoni Ranch, a pre-Prohibiition vineyard near Geyserville, provided budwood for grafting onto phylloxera-resistant rootstock. Then, for several years they worked diligently to screen and propagate virus-free vines that would ultimately produce a crop. Finally, in 1997 the process concluded with a “young vine” wine that displayed “old vine” Zinfandel characteristics.

Zins under $20 often disappoint. Dry Creek delivers with theirs. The nose is fruit driven with ripe notes of blackberry, plum, and raspberry. Rich dark berries pack the palate as blackberry, raspberry, and boysenberry flavors drift into hints of spice and vanilla. Sure to impress your dinner guests for a very reasonable price.
