Background
Estancia Chardonnay is made from grapes grown on Pinnacles vineyard on the western flanks of the Gavilan Mountains in Monterey County. In this up-and-coming region, the cool climate and sandy, well-drained soils keep yields low and fruit intensity high. The cool Monterey climate accompanied by a long growing season produced a ripe, mouthfilling Chardonnay.
Review
This is a great pick for a bottle that is $12. A glass offers a lush nose of pineapple, stone-fruits, and melon, with a touch of nutmeg and oak. Pineapple and melon return on the palate alongside a creamy hint of lemon custard, which closes on a kiss of vanilla. It’s a nice wine for the $10-$12 range and sure to please a crowd. Enjoy it on its own before dinner, or serve it with a light pasta dish.
