Viticulture Notes
The 2005 growing season began unusually cold and rainy, followed by a heat spell in mid-March, which started the growing early. The rain continued sporadically through June, with summer temperatures rarely rising above 90 degrees. Although the rain held out until late October, the vineyards were able to absorb the sun and heat they needed. The long, cool growing season of 2005 was ideal for developing premium Zinfandel grapes with good complexity, maturity, and flavor.
Review
Winemaker Eric Cinnamon should get notice for capturing the essence of Monte Rosso with this Zinfandel. Given some time to open up, intoxicating aromas of blackberry, burnt currants, cedar, and sweet spice envelop the senses. A lush, smooth wine with elegant fruit flavors of raspberry and blackberry, alongside cinnamon, cedar, and pepper. Enjoy this wine with a plate of slow smoked ribs.
