Robert Hall 2017 “Cavern Select” Grenache Blanc

A bouquet of tropical fruits and spring flowers rise up from a glass. A sip reveals flavors of mango, passion fruit, and apple backed up by suggestions of citrus blossoms and minerals. A good body and fresh acidity make this a wine to pair with a variety of chicken or seafood Tai dishes. 230 cases produced.

Robert Hall 2015 “Cavern Select” Cabernet Sauvignon

Tasting Notes:

Aromatics of black currants and blackberries combine with highlights of coffee, nutmeg, and smoky oak on the nose. Flavors of dried currant and bramble berry play nicely among nuances of mocha, cigar box, and brown spice on the palate. Polished tannins frame the wine nicely and there’s a good balance of fruity and savory character. Open a bottle when you enjoy a rack of lamb. 445 cases were made.

Tasting Notes:

Lovely aromas of blackberries, cassis, and dark plums mingle with hints of dark chocolate and clove on the nose. The palate showcases flavors of blackberry, black cherry, and currant, along with expressions of dark chocolate, brown spice, and toasty vanilla. A supple wine with plush tannins that’s still fairly dry and layered making it a very good buy for the price.

Aromas of blueberries, blackberries, and boysenberries jump from a glass, accented by herbaceous and cedary allusions. Up front on the palate, there’s rich, dark fruit, as flavors of blueberry and boysenberry lead the way, before hints of cedar and thyme follow up. Layered and complex, spicy Mexican dishes will work nicely with this wine.

The nose brings together aromas of blueberries and blackberries with notes of fresh herbs and cedar spice. There’s a balance of flavors on the palate, with blueberry and dark cherry flavors interweaving among elements of mint, herbs, and sweet tobacco. Rather more substantial than many a California Mablec, gamy meat dishes will make lovely pairings.

Offering dusty tannins and interesting layers, it’s a wine that could work well as a pairing for brisket marinated in fresh herbs. 236 cases
