LOS ANGELES, Dec. 7, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Superior Grocers, one of the largest independent supermarket chains in Southern California, has partnered once again with Nestle USA to continue its commitment to education in Southern California. In an effort to support local schools, Superior Grocers and Nestle USA‘s school donation partnership will award a total of $152,000 to 132 local schools, each school receiving $1,000 and $20,000 to the National Guard Youth Foundation.

School representatives from the awarded schools and representatives from the National Guard Youth Foundation will be attending a special ceremony to be held on Friday, December 7, 2012 at the Superior Grocers store in Montebello, CA.

Nestle USA and Superior Grocers started their school donation partnership in 2009 to ensure their shared commitment to supporting healthy families benefitted the grocery chain’s area schools. Since then, more than $450,000 in combined funds, school supplies and books have been donated to Southern California schools.

“Nestle is committed to helping families eat healthy by providing healthier food and beverages while helping to further children’s health education by supporting local schools,” said Vanessa Rivera, manager, Multicultural Marketing Communications, Nestle USA.

Nestle’s contribution is awarded under its integrated consumer and shopper multi-brand program El Mejor Nido (“Create the Best Nest”). Nestle launched the multi-brand program in 2011 to better connect with U.S. Hispanic families, using Nestle’s nutrition, health & wellness expertise to help Hispanic consumers nurture a fulfilling family life.

This program is well received by the community and the funds will help further student’s nutrition, health and wellness education, helping them achieve academic potential, physical and mental growth, and lifelong health and well-being.

“At Superior, we are committed to establishing a special connection with our customers throughout Southern California,” said Phil Lawrence, chief operating officer of Superior Grocers. “We partner with caring companies like Nestle, to help generate donations that benefit our communities’ schools.”

“Superior Grocers values the importance of the community’s vitality and educational programs,” said Mimi Song, president & CEO of Superior Grocers. “We are active partners in the communities we serve and will continue to support the improvement of education throughout Southern California.”

A special ceremony to award these donations to school representatives will be held on Friday, Dec.7, 2012 at 10 a.m. The event will take place at the Superior Grocers’ store location at 1201 W. Whittier Blvd, Montebello, CA 90640.
