We fell in love with wines from Paso Robles, California ten years ago, and now, it seems (finally) that wine lovers everywhere are following suit.  If you haven’t discovered the charm of Paso yet, here are three red blends that are well worth a try. Cheers!

Tablas Creek 2015 Patelin de Tablas

Grape(s): 51% Syrah, 31% Grenache, 14% Mourvèdre and 4% Counoise

Region: Paso Robles, Ca

Price: 15-20

Tasting Notes:

A bouquet of raspberries, blackberries, leather, and pepper rise up from a glass. Blackberry, blueberry, and plum flavors take shape on the palate, alongside nuances of black pepper and leather. A good balance of fruity and savory flavors make this a wine that new and old world lovers could share and probably both enjoy!

Opaque 2014 Darkness Red Wine

Grape(s):  Zinfandel, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Petit Verdot & Petite Sirah

Region: Paso Robles, Ca

Price: 20-25

Tasting Notes:

Waves of dark fruit, caramel, and mocha rise up from a glass. Lush on the palate, black cherry, boysenberry, and black plum mingle among elements of caramel, dark chocolate, and coffee. Smooth tannins and ripe fruit make this a compelling wine if you enjoy a fruit forward style.

Daou 2017 Pessimist Red Blend

Grape(s): Petite Sirah 64%, Syrah 23%, 10% Zinfandel, 2% Lagrein, & 1% Tannat.

Region: Paso Robles, Ca

Price: 20-25

Tasting Notes:

Blackberry jam, blueberry compote, and dark plum aromas combine with suggestions of black licorice, dark chocolate, and mint on the nose. Ripe on the palate, lots of dark fruit flavors comes forth, following into accents of dark chocolate, mint tea, and anise. Quite lush but it still has a bit of nuance; fans of new world style red blends should try this.
